It comes paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission for smooth, responsive shifts. The SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD Sport Premium are available in either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or part-time 4-wheel drive (4WD). RWD models offer an impressive EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg city / 26 mpg highway, while 4WD models are rated at 19 mpg city / 25 mpg highway. The TRD Sport trim adds a sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein® shocks to enhance on-road handling, while the TRD Off-Road is built for the trail, featuring an electronically controlled locking rear differential and Multi-Terrain Select with Crawl Control. For a new level of power, the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain is a game-changer for the 4Runner, combining the same 2.4-liter turbo engine with a 48-hp electric motor for a combined output of 326 horsepower and a massive 465 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid system provides instant torque, making it a dream for climbing steep terrain or passing on the highway. This advanced powertrain is standard on the top-tier Limited, Platinum, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro trims, and is also an available option on the TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium models. Despite its significant power boost, the hybrid powertrain maintains strong efficiency, with an EPA-estimated rating of 23 mpg city / 24 mpg highway. The Limited and Platinum trims come standard with a full-time 4WD system. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims are engineered for extreme off-roading, with features like FOX® shocks on the TRD Pro and Old Man Emu® shocks on the Trailhunter, along with 33-inch all-terrain tires. The 4Runner also boasts a maximum towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds across most trims, proving its versatility whether you're taking your boat to the lake or pulling a camper for a long weekend.
